Casey’s journey began in Australia, where she grew up showing ponies competitively between the ages of 6 and 13. After acquiring a pony that was particularly talented, she started having dressage lessons. She was fortunate enough to train with many fantastic trainers from the very beginning, including Debbie McDonald, Christoph Hess, Hartmut Schmidt and Roger Fitzhardinge. This excellent start in her dressage career created a solid foundation for her to build on. Between the ages of 13 and 16 Casey was selected for various state and national young rider teams and competed all over Australia with much success, securing multiple national titles.
At the age of 16, Casey left Australia to further her dressage career in the UK and Germany. After only a year of riding and training in the UK with Adam Kemp and Matt Frost, she was selected to represent Great Britain internationally at Junior level with Seigneur II, and was on the 2011 GB Junior Prime Squad, shortlisted for the European Young Rider Championships. During this time, Casey frequently travelled to and from Germany to train with Leonie Bramall, two-time Canadian Olympic rider and international trainer.
In 2012 Casey stayed in Germany for several months with Leonie Bramall, training and competing with Seigneur II. She also acquired two young horses in this time, Chadwick and Debertina, both bred by Leonie and her partner Volker Dusche. Upon returning to the UK, Casey began to run her own training stable near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, at age 18. This is when Casey began to teach and share her knowledge, and carve out a career from her passion for dressage.
In 2014 Casey moved to Forest View, a purpose-built dressage training yard. Casey has had much success helping riders from her base at Forest View whilst continuing her own training and competing. In 2014 she spent a summer with Spanish-German trainer Jaime Amian in Luxembourg, continuing with her classically German way of training but with a Spanish flair for piaffe and passage.
In 2016/17 Casey spent some valuable time training with Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Benjamin Werndl in Munich, Germany. While she was there she also had the chance to work with Morten Thompson (top international trainer from Denmark) and Andreas Hausberger (former Chief rider, Spanish Riding School), and observe training sessions with Jessica and Benni and their trainer Johnny Hilberath.
Casey’s style of riding and teaching has developed over many years of training with the best, and is fundamentally sympathetic and true to the German training scale. Casey has also been a qualified yoga teacher since 2016, and ran some of the in-house yoga sessions at Jessica von Bredow-Werndl’s while she was training there. Casey can advise and guide you in exercises to improve body strength and position, as well as meditation and breathing techniques to help keep a calm and steady mind during your training.
During recent years Casey has spent time consolidating all she has learnt from countless hours of training; developing her own ideology and system that has been tried and tested with 12 years of teaching. Developing this system also included her yoga training, which has played a large role in fine-tuning the mind and body to be fit for working with horses in such an intricate way. At the forefront of Casey’s training system is calmness, kindness and empathy, whilst still being effective and fair. She is uncompromising on these values for both herself and her clients.
